Branding, presenting and marketing your work

Instructor:

Julie Grahame

Dates:

Feb 25, 2018 - Mar 2, 2018

Location:

Cyan: studio, Jens Bjelkesgate, Oslo

This workshop is all about branding, presentation and finding the right venues for your photography. It is a great workshop to attend if you are preparing for portfolio reviews, presentation of work to galleries, choosing what work to enter into a competition, and getting a photo-story published. During the course of the workshop you will learn what marketing tools will work for you, what is expected of you when you present work, how to present work in a professional matter, both in print, and digitally, and which venues, galleries, reviews, arenas your work is suited for.

In short, you will leave this workshop with a better understanding of how the marketplace for photography works, where your work might fit it, and different ways to get your work where it needs to be.

Julie will teach you how to really look at your work, assessing its strength and weaknesses, and make you analyse what your work is really about. It order to further develop your voice as a photographer, and fine-tune your style and vision, you need to know the roots of your work.

She will give you a realistic look at where and how to market your images, on and offline. She will review your website and social media presence, and make suggestions to improve your impact and make sure that your voice is visible in all your presentations. She will also look at editing and sequencing of your work, both on your website and portfolio presentations.

This workshop is held at Cyan Studio in Oslo during the week of their Stipendutstillingen 2018. Cyan has changed the premiss of this exhibit, and will for 2018 only present work by photographers who have submitted a portfolio and gotten selected by their jury.  The stipendutstiling open with a presentation of the photographers accepted into Stipendutstillingen on Sunday February 25Th, and wraps with a portfolio review on Saturday March 3RD, where Grahame is one of the reviewers. The work selected for the Stipendutstillingen 2018 will be shown in an exhibit at Cyan during the week of our workshop. Info about Cyan Folio can be found here.

We start this workshop with an open lecture by Julie Grahame at Cyan Studio on Sunday February 25TH from 6-7PM. The lecture is followed by a project presentation from the photographers accepted into Cyan Stipendutstillingen 2018. The group meet on Monday morning for a breakfast gathering where participants get to present their work to the group and to Julie. We break at noon, where participants have time to work on their own until we meet again from 5PM - 9PM at Cyan. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning participants will meet with Julie one-on-one to get an evaluation of their work, and advice specifically aimed to their photography and to help with any questions and concerns you might have on your work.

When you are not in a one-on-one meeting you will be given assignments that should be completed before the next lecture. The mornings are kept fairly open so that participants that have a day job, do not need to miss to much work. You are still expected to have completed the days assignment before the group lecture.

The group lectures in the evening will have a strong focus on how to successfully develop a brand/niche as a creative artist. On Friday morning participants are expected to present their work again, but this time using all the tools given by Julie throughout the week.

For our Monday and Friday morning gatherings, which will happen on a private location, NORDphotography will provide a delicious breakfast to the group.
