POLAROID STUDIO (Level 2): Advanced Practice &
Project Development

with Jari Poulin
PERIOD: Feb. 3 - Jun. 16

Jari Poulin's advanced studio workshop offers the time, structure, and critical support to move beyond experimentation and into focused, intentional project development. Designed as a project-driven lab, the course supports photographers who want to deepen their relationship with instant film, whether through an evolving body of work, an exhibition-ready project, or an intensive exploration of experimental processes.

Jari Poulin's advanced Polaroid workshop is designed for artists who already use Polaroid as part of their creative practice and are ready to take their work further.

Meeting every three to four weeks, the course allows time between sessions for sustained experimentation, reflection, and production,  mirroring the rhythm of a professional studio practice.

SPECIFICS:

The class meets on Tuesdays, starting Feb. 3rd and wrapping on June 16th.  â€‹

Day: Tuesdays

Time: 19:00 - 21:00 CET /  1PM to 3PM EST

Dates: Feb. 3, Mar. 3, 24, Apr. 21, May 26, Jun. 16.

Place: Zoom

Levels: All levels

Language: English

Max participants: 8

Participants will work toward a self-directed Polaroid project, which may take the form of a cohesive body of work, a series developed for exhibition, or a focused investigation of a specific experimental approach.

Processes explored may include emulsion transfers, hand manipulation, hand painting, chemical alteration “souping”, mixed media integration, and other advanced or hybrid techniques.

Students are encouraged to push the physical, conceptual, and aesthetic boundaries of instant film while maintaining intentionality and clarity of vision.

Through group critiques, individual feedback, artist talks, and guided prompts, students will refine both process and concept. Emphasis will be placed on editing, sequencing, presentation, and articulation of ideas thus supporting artists in preparing work for exhibition, publication, or inclusion within a broader photographic or interdisciplinary project.

This workshop functions as a collaborative studio environment, fostering thoughtful dialogue and shared inquiry among experienced Polaroid practitioners. Artists will leave the course with deeper technical confidence, a more focused creative direction, and a well-developed Polaroid project that reflects their individual voice.

It is ideal for artists who:

  • Are developing a specific Polaroid-based project

  • Want to explore advanced or experimental Polaroid processes in depth.

  • Are preparing work for exhibition, portfolio development, or integration into an ongoing body of work

  • Seek a supportive, critique-driven studio environment

Students should arrive with an existing interest, question, or direction they wish to pursue during the course.
