We feel privileged to introduce a very inspiring and dedicated Norwegian teacher to our members. Øyvind Hjelmen is his name and he is one of the few Norwegian photographers who have made a name for himself outside Norway. His images has been exhibited world wide and Øyvind is definitely a creative force to be reckon with. He is also a passionate educator and we are very happy to have him join our teaching team.
Born in 1957, Øyvind lives and works on the island of Stord, on the west-coast of Norway. Apart from having attended various photographic workshops, he is autodidact as an artist. He holds a BA in modern art and aesthetics from the University of Bergen.
Øyvind has been working with photography as his artistic expression for more than 20 years, and his works have been exhibited in USA, Germany, Russia, United Kingdom, Poland, Italy, Japan, France and Norway. Among the collections that hold his works are The Museum of Fine Art in Houston, USA, and Centro Internazionale di Fotografia Scavi Scaligeri - Verona, Italy.
He has been teaching photography for 10 years, giving workshops at Stord, but he has also been guest lecturer at the American Intercontinental University in London, and is also lecturing at Bilder Nordic School of Photography in Oslo.
Øyvind won the 2010 Gold award, in GULLSNITT, the largest photo competition in Norwegian.

NORDphotography is planning several workshops this fall, and will post them on our workshop calendar as soon as dates are confirmed. Joyce Tenneson kick's off the fall semester with the workshop "A Gathering of Creative Women", happening in her studio in Maine, USA August 28TH until September 4TH. There will be yoga, meditation and inspiring photography..

BOOK DESIGN:
29 - 31 October the very talented graphic designer and photographer, Mat Thorne will be teaching us all there is to know about book design, and how to create professional looking books and portfolios using BLURB. Mat does not represent BLURB but has worked with them for several years through assignments from clients like Cig Harvey, Joyce Tenneson, Geoge Tice, Harvey Stein and the like. Mat is a sought after teacher and this workshop is one of his most popular. The dates are confirmed and you can read all about this workshop in our

MULTIMEDIA:
We have a workshop in Multimedia presentations scheduled with the multitalented artist Jonathan Laurence in early November. This will be a 2 part workshop, where Level 1, which is happening in November, will give you the skills needed to create coherent multimedia-pieces using sound, text, still images. We will cover storytelling, interview techniques, recording of voices, sounds, music, and create a coherent multimedia piece using all this and your images to tell a story.
Level 2 will happen January or February, and will cover moving images/ video as well. Photographers who are beginners in Multi-media are suggested to attend level 1 and 2. Photographers who are familiar with multimedia, and know the basics, are suggested to take only level 2.
Jonathan is a sought after multimedia consultant, and educator.

CREATIVE RETOUCHING/ PHOTOSHOP CS4-CS5
Our very talented Claire Rosen is back to teach another workshop in Photoshop with portraits and fashion in mind sometime in November. Claire's way of teaching photoshop gives the students a basic understanding of the different techniques used in professional retouching, and you will leave this workshop with the skills needed to master any challenge a retouching assignment might give you.

TAKING GREAT PICTURES:
We are also looking forward to introduce a new educator to our members, and this time a Norwegian. 14 participants joined us on the workshop "Portraits and Self portraits" thought by the acclaimed American Photographer Joyce Tenneson, at the historical Gammel Kleppe Farm in Vågå, this June. The result of the workshop was of such a high quality that our host at Gammel Kleppe Farm invited NORDphotography to curate a show of the best work from the workshop, to join the annual Summer Exhibit at the farm. Of course we said yes, and here is the result:

On the 17Th of July the salute sounded over Vågå ..
..and this years Summer Exhibit was officially opened. Gammel Kleppe presents The photo exhibit Student's of Tenneson, grafic by Ørnulf Opdahl, paintings by Christopher Rådlund, Øystein Tømmerås, Christer Karlstad and Marianne Wiig Storås among other artists. In addition to opening the Summer Exhibit, this event was also the official opening of Vågå Gardshotel, which Gammel Kleppe is part of.

Jonathan Laurence is an internationally sought after . .
photographer, multimedia artist/producer, and consultant.
His client-list is long and includes Phase One, SEIU, PopTech, Timbuk2, and Ballantine Book. Jonathan is one of the most creative people we know of, and has a enormous interest, and knowledge of new media and technology. He is a sought after teacher in multimedia, and we are so happy to announce that Jonathan is joining our teaching staff, and will be coming to Oslo this fall to teach.
In 2009 Jonathan received the Rising Star Award from the Palm Beach Photographic Center. He is representet by Asymmetrick Arts:

Mat Thorne is an artist and designer from West Virginia who is joining our teaching staff this fall.
In adition of being a great fine art photographer, Mat is also the co owner of Sevenbay, a design company, who specialises in webdesign, promotinal desing and book design. Mat is a sought after designer and on his client list you will find names like Joyce Tenneson, Cig Harvey, Brenton Hamilton and the like.
We have been a fan of Mat's intriguing art work for several years, and are very pleased to be able to introduce him to our readers, and to have him teach a creative workshop for us.
