NORDphotography is happy to present our new offer PORTFOLIO, which is a opportunity for photographers to travel to exclusive locations around the world to create new work. Then have that work be critiqued and selected by a guest curator, and be part of a final PORTFOLIO, which will be published by NORDphotography. We will invite a well known photographer as our guest curator. This photographer will also join us on location, to create their own work, which also will be part of the final PORTFOLIO.
Our guest curator for 2018 is the British American photographer Cig Harvey. Our exclusive location for 2018 is St Petersburg - Russia.
We will spend 5 days shooting in different location in St Petersburg selected for us by our long time colaborator and art historian Tanya Yermolayeva, who will be guiding the group giving us a glimpse into the world that used to inhabit the spaces we will visit. Our locations will be ranging from old mansions, to museums and historical buildings.
In the weeks after our St Petersburg journey you will send your best selection to Cig Harvey, who will do a private image critic with you via Skype. In this session Cig will suggest which images you should submit to the PORTFOLIO.
There will also be a group critic session with Cig, via Skype, in the week after the photoshoot, so everyone from our journey can experience the other participants work.
The final pick for the PORTFOLIO will be by Cig Harvey in collaboration with NORDphotography’s founder Elisabeth N Aanes. The goal of the PORTFOLIO, in addition to creating a beautiful presentation of Fine Art Photography, is to promote the artwork of the photographers included. Each participants will get 1 copy of the PORTFOLIO.
Participants will get a deadline for when the selected images have to be submitted to be considered for the PORTFOLIO, so that you will have time to do your regular post production work on them. Each participant is guaranteed a minimum of 5 images in the PORTFOLIO.
The PORTFOLIO will be produced, promoted and sold via NORDphotography. The proceeds will partly go to cover the cost for marketing the PORTFOLIO and distributing it and to present the PORTFOLIO in different photo ventures like festivals and the likes.
We accept 9 participant in this class. This means that you will not be alone on the location, and has to share the space with your fellow participants. And you will have to share the models. We will have a minimum of 3 models each day for this class. If you prefer your own model, we can arrange for that, but you will have to cover the extra model fee (between 100-200 dollars pr model). We will spend from 4-6 hours on each location. In the evening we can gather in our classroom to share work and creative thought about todays session, before the group heads out for dinner. Our guide Tanya will be helpful in suggesting places for us to dine, exhibit to visit, and other cultural events to see while we are in St Petersburg.
LIGHT AND EQUIPMENT: You will have to bring the equipment you need to shoot on location. And props and clothing for your model. We will have some light equipment with us on each location, but that would be more of a general light source. We can organise rental of light equipment for you. We would suggest keeping it simple and not overcomplicate your shoot with a lot of equipment. We are working in old mansions and historical buildings, and it might be cumbersome to carry around a lot of equipment on location. And being creative with available light, your camera flash, a torch might give you want you want, and keep the equipment stress to a minimum. We will be shooting in the daylight hours. We would suggest bringing a monopod or a tripod.
ACCEPTANCE BY PORTFOLIO: we want to create a dynamic group of creative people that will inspire each other with their work, their talent and passion for photography. We also want to make sure that we have a diverse group of photographers, so our final product, the PORTFOLIO, can reach far and wide. When registration for this class please send ut a link to your website, or a place we can see your work. We would also love to hear why you want to be part of this class, and what you hope to accomplish in St Petersburg. We will confirm your seat within a couple of days.
