Joyce Tenneson - 2 seats open

Aug 26, 2017 - Sep 2, 2017

Rockport/ Camden - Maine - USA

We invite you to spend a week with internationally renowned photographer Joyce Tenneson, as your mentor. This will be our tenth year collaborating with Joyce, and we are celebrating that with a workshop focusing on developing ideas, projects, and the path to creating a successful cohesive body of work that could become a book or exhibition, or both. Joyce has developed countless projects over her 40 year career, including the creation of 16 successful books, and in this workshop she shares her secrets.

Through image lectures, editing sessions, group brainstorming of marketing ideas, and one-on-one critiques, Joyce will help you develop your personal project plans. In addition, to enhance the creative process, each day participants will spend time with Joyce and writer Susan Currie, a certified yoga instructor, exploring your inner selves through group meditation, guided imagery, and journal writing.

The goal on this workshop is to develop a chohesive body of work either from work you already have done, or new work you will shoot during the workshop. Joyce will identify and discuss the important steps in successfully developing such a project, and help you make a plan that will secure its succsess.

Each day will begin with yoga or group walks through the beautiful coastal environment of mid-coast Maine.

This will be a memorable week for all!

"Every so often an artist comes along who defies the easy labeling that curators and critics feel obliged to stick on everything under their rapacious gaze. In spite of lacking obvious inspirations and role models, these artists manage to create deeply felt, radical works that an extraordinary number of viewers respond to with fervor and pleasure." - Karl-Peter Gottschalk, photography critic, on Joyce Tenneson

Internationally lauded as one of the leading photographers of her generation, Joyce Tenneson’s work has been published in books and major magazines, and exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide. Her portraits have appeared on covers for magazines such as: Time, Life, Newsweek, Premiere, Esquire and The New York Times Magazine.

Vicki Goldberg, critic and author, writes of Tenneson: “Tenneson possesses a unique vision which makes her photographs immediately recognizable. She creates enigmatic and sensuous images that are timeless and haunting.

Tenneson is the author of sixteen books including the best seller, Wise Women, which was featured in a six-part Today Show series. She is the recipient of many awards, including Fine Art Photographer of the Year in 2005 (Lucie Awards), and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Professional Photographers of America in 2012. In a poll conducted by American Photo Magazine, readers voted Tenneson among the ten most influential women in the history of photography. In the Fall of 2014, Fotografiska Museum, in Stockholm, Sweden, mounted a large retrospective of her work which was seen by approximately 30,000 people.
